From its name alone you can start imagining that this fish looks like a blob. You won’t even think it will pass as a fish. In 2010 it was called the most miserable looking fish because of how every part of it looks droopy and just plain sad. The Blobfish lives 800 meters in the deep and can grow up to 12 inches. This weird sea creature lives with crabs and lobsters which makes it easy for fishermen to haul it up the surface. Although this fish is not edible it is in danger of being extinct due to over-fishing in eastern Australia. Now that is another reason for the blobfish to feel miserable.

Its name may invite other ideas to mind that are nowhere near a sea creature but the Pink See-through Fantasia is actually a sea cucumber. Unlike your usual sea cucumbers, this one is pink. If that’s not odd enough, its pink skin is transparent which will allow you to see the intestine like coil inside its body. The Pink See-through Fantasia can be found 2,500 meters below surface in the Celebes Sea. This weird sea creature looks pretty mesmerizing at first, and then it will make you think of what it actually does aside from swimming using the webbed structures underneath its body.

This weird sea creature was discovered in the Great Barrier Reef. True to its name, the Christmas Tree Worm looks like a Christmas tree and they come in different colors including yellow, orange, blue, and white. Also, like a tree, this one barely moves and they prefer to stay within the rocks. It uses its hair-like branches as its breathing and feeding mechanism. Their average size is 1.5 inches. When threatened, they will retract their branches and burrow themselves to avoid predators.

The sea angel is actually a mesmerizing creature to look at. At first you may think it’s a siren or a mermaid creature. This tiny transparent creature has wings that it uses to slowly swim in the water making it appear mystical. Inside its transparent body are reddish tentacles that the Sea Angel uses to catch its prey. Although the Sea Angel looks like a small cross between a siren and shark, this weird sea creature is actually a slug. They are usually found on colder waters of the Antarctic or in the Polar Regions.

At first look they look like your usual crabs but this weird sea creature are the hairy kind. They use their hair to grow their food by trapping bacteria, allowing them to thrive first before combing them out and slurping them in. The Yeti Crab was discovered in 2005 in the South Pacific Ocean.

Believed to be the largest squid species in terms of mass, the colossal squid can grow up to 46 feet long. This weird sea creature was first identified when two of its arms were found inside a sperm whale’s stomach back in 1925. The colossal squid also has the biggest eyes that measures about 25cm in diameter and is compared to a car’s headlights because of its photophore or a light-emitting organ that helps this quid attract prey. The Vampire Squid got its name from looking like a monster from a sci-fi movie. Although small at 6 inches in length, the vampire squid is a fast swimmer. It a jellyfish like body unlike that of a usual squid. It has eight arms with rows of fleshy spines connected by a webbed skin and has red eyes making it looks more terrifying. Vampire squids are found between depths of 90 to 900 meters in tropical deep waters. While its diet is yet to be determined, it is believed that they feed on prawns and other vertebrae.  This is one of the weird sea creature that are interesting and uncommon. A saltwater fish, the viperfish settle near lower depths in humid and calm waters. It looks like a piranha with large fangs that don’t even fit its own mouth. This fearsome looking creature uses its dorsal spine that a photophore at the tip to lure its prey. The photophore is a light-producing organ that lures smaller fishes to the viperfish without even requiring any movement. It then uses its fangs to crush its prey and eat them.
